Calling all national and community service friends and champions! The news is here, and it's not good...
On March 11, President Trump released his initial outline of the FY 2020 Congressional Budget Justification (CBJ) with the full version scheduled for release on March 18th.
Unfortunately, for the third time in a row, the President has recommended the complete elimination of the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) and its programs, including AmeriCorps, Senior Corps, and the Volunteer Generation Fund (VGF). If enacted, President Trump's budget would also eliminate all federal funding for state service commissions.
We cannot let this happen. The time is now to begin the fight for 2020.
Luckily, Congress constitutionally holds the "power of the purse." Only Congress can decide how to set the federal budget. So we need you to let your Members of Congress know that, now more than ever, we need their support to reject these proposed cuts in order to protect and expand national service.
Join the States for Service Coalition on March 18th (and the days immediately following) to fight for the future national service.
We need your help to call, email, and tweet at your Members of Congress. Phone calls are by far the most effective way to ensure your voice is heard, so we've provided a special tool and phone script that will connect you to your Members of Congress to make it as easy as pie!
Use our campaign tool to make contacting Congress quick and easy. Bonus points if you complete all 3 actions: sending an email, making your phone calls, and posting a tweet.
It only takes about 10 minutes. You can do it! We'll even call YOU with a script and patch you through to your 2 Senators' offices and 1 House Representative.
There are 5 key things to say when you speak with them:
- Hi, my name is _________, and I am a constituent.
- I am calling in response to the President’s 2020 budget, which is proposing to eliminate CNCS and its programs AmeriCorps, Senior Corps, and the Volunteer Generation Fund.
- I am calling to ask that you reject these proposed cuts, and that you support full and expanded funding for CNCS and its programs in 2020. We need to expand national service, not cut it. It costs so little and does so much good for our state.
- Can we count on your office’s support for CNCS and national service in 2020?
- Thank you for your time.
Just fill out your information using our campaign tool and we'll take you through the rest. Just click through each action to finish.
